ARTHOUSE
is an absolute Americanism.
Firstly, it was a name for small cinemas in USA where foreign-language
films were screened. Later such cinemas began to screen pictures
released in a few prints (these were the art-films created not
for mass-audience and not as entertainment-product, but as works
of art, that supposed thoughtful mood and deep emotional contact
with the audience). As a result of such cinemas' activities there
originated arthouse-movie networks.
Thus, ARTHOUSE is:
Independent American cinemas (inde-houses).
Films by exotic-countries cinematography (Uruguay, Korea, Butan,
Taiwan, Iran, etc.).
European art-cinema (outstanding directors' names).
Cultural European cinema (low-budget films, without any touch
of aesthetic radicalism and artistic depth).
ARTHOUSE TRAFFIC
The idea of "Arthouse Traffic" project is in distribution of
interesting, intellectual and original films that are highly
appreciated by both public and critics abroad, win awards at
the honorable international film festivals, but are not known
in Ukraine yet due to their non-commercial nature.
Our principal strategy is not so much earning money as enriching
and diversifying Ukrainian culture life and introducing European
and World culture to Ukrainian public. Just to say, that by this
time so-called 'arthouse" cinema was mostly not known in Ukraine
any way but in low-quality video. "Arthouse Traffic" project
is the first initiative to screen such films on 35mm as regular
practice.
As a company Arthouse Traffic was founded in December 2003.
For almost two years period Arthouse Traffic organized more then
50 projects
